Collections > The Christian period
With the introduction of Christianity into Nubia as the official religion, the iconography changed and art was largely confined to churches and monasteries. Burial goods ceased to exist, since under the new religion the people no longer included objects or offerings with the dead, except in the case of high-ranking church elders, who might have been buried in their robes or with their finger rings of office.
