Collections > The Islamic period

In 641 AD, Islam arrived in Egypt and gradually spread into Nubia. Not until the 16th century, however, was it able to eclipse Christianity, which then became extinct in Nubia. The best-preserved early Islamic paraphernalia in the Museum come from Qasr Ibrim, where there has been virtually no rain in centuries.
